GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) -- Families felt the holiday spirit at Titletown on Friday during the 2018 Winter Jubilee kick-off. The annual event is designed with winter activities in mind for the whole family.
Titletown Winter Jubilee Light Show
Hundreds strapped up their skates and got on the ice to celebrate Winter Jubilee, the ice rink opened its gates to the public last week.
"We come every Thanksgiving to spend some time with our family, and we've got little kids, and I've got a daughter who's wanted to ice skate for a long time and so this was the perfect day to come and ice skate," said Katy Gash, who is visiting family from Hendersonville, North Carolina.
Something new this year is The Ice Lounge, located on the east side of the park. The Ice Lounge is a temporary climate controlled lounge with a cocktail bar and tables, all made out of ice. The lounge also has interactive ice sculptures.
"A lot of great sculptures that kind of take in Titletown and really tell our story in there so it's just, it's absolutely beautiful," said Jackie Krutz, manager of Titletown Residential and Programs.
"It's very nice, so family oriented, very peaceful and a nice place in the community to come for people to enjoy," said Marilyn Tewes from Green Bay.
While Winter Jubilee provides activities for everybody, some await the opening of Titletown's tubing hill, Ariens Hill. Officials say, it'll be a couple more weeks.
"We need to see lower temperatures in order for us to make snow or just get a large amount of snow for us here so we can start building it up and getting it ready for tubing, but we want that hill open as soon as possible," Krutz says.
One of the most popular attractions is the Winter Jubilee Light Show.
"Everybody looks like they're having a great time, and we can't wait for the lights," Tewes tells Action 2 News.
Friday marked the first light show of the season. It's a mix of holiday lights, music, animation, fireworks and lasers, projected on Lambeau Field's west façade.
The Winter Jubilee Light Show runs every half an hour beginning at 6 p.m. on show days. The light show does run most Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays up until the end of December. For a Titletown calendar of events click here.
