Mad City Badgers youth wheelchair basketball team to play third place tournament game Sunday

NEW LENOX, Ill. (WMTV) -- Big wins on Friday and earlier in the week for the Mad City Badgers youth wheelchair basketball team led to a match up against Nebraska on Saturday morning.

NBC15 first introduced viewers to the team on Thursday as they prepared for the 2019 Toyota National Varsity Invitational Wheelchair Basketball Tournament in New Lenox, Illinois.

According to the team's Facebook page, the second half didn't go the Badgers way. The group of eight athletes fought for 40 minutes against a powerhouse in Nebraska.

The team suffered their first defeat in the tournament on Saturday morning.

On Friday, the team won both of its games defeating the Music City Thunder and Ryan Martin Foundation, according to the team's Facebook page.

The team couldn't keep their playoff dreams alive, but have the opportunity to compete for third place in the tournament on Sunday at 10 a.m.
