MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WMTV) - The Milwaukee Brewers beat the St. Louis Cardinals 5-4 during the open for the 2019 MLB season Thursday.
The gates for tailgating opens at 10:10 a.m. and Miller Park opens at 11:10 a.m. The game starts at 1:10 p.m.
Brewer great Gorman Thomas says he's looking forward to the 2019 season. He reflected on his time with the Brewers back in the 70's.
"It's a very special day. It's going to be insane here," Gorman said. "Everybody looks for it. Let's play baseball."
Rick Schlesinger, the President of Business Operations for the Brewers, says Opening Day is sold out and nearly 45,000 people will be there to support the team.
"There's always optimism and obviously coming off of a great 2018 season. The fans are expecting great things and so are we." Schlesinger said. "Whether they're lining up now to tailgate or getting excited for the season, we have great fans."
Tyler Barnes, Vice President of Communications for the Brewers, says fans can buy new Brewer gear at a lower cost.
"We took our retail in house, we don't have a middle man anymore. When you do that you're able to offer things at a little bit less of a price."
Some of the new items fans get buy include: golf items, 500 different styles of hats and a line of authentic items.
Another big part of opening day at Miller Park is the food. Seth Vanderlaan, Executive Chef at Miller Park, says there are a lot of new food items for fans to try.
Miller Park will be serving up Fried BBQ Street Corn, The Pearl Sugar Waffle, Elote en Vaso and a Wisconsin Ultimate Cheese Fry.
First pitch of the 2019 season begins at 1:10pm against the St. Louis Cardinals.
