UW Women's Hockey advances to National Championship

HAMDEN, Conn. (WMTV) -- The University of Wisconsin Women's Hockey team advanced to the National Championship game after a 5-0 win over the Clarkson Golden Knights in Hamden, Connecticut Friday night.

After the first period, both teams were scoreless. The Badgers had 13 shots on goal to the Golden Knights' 5.

With 10:31 left in the second period, junior forward Abby Roque put Wisconsin on the board. The Badgers led the two-time defending champions 1-0.

Senior forward Sam Cogan scored from behind the Clarkson net to put Wisconsin up 2-0 with 9:08 left in the third period.

The Badgers couldn't be slowed down as redshirt-senior forward Annie Pankowski put Wisconsin up 3-0 with 6:13 remaining in the third period.

Pankowski scored again to give the Badgers a 4-0 lead in the final period, before junior forward Presley Norby finished off the Golden Knights by tacking on a fifth and final goal for Wisconsin.

The Badgers will play none other than the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Sunday, March 24 at 1:30 p.m. CT.
