MADISON, Wi. Verona native Beata Nelson won three NCAA titles over the weekend at the NCAA Championships in Austin, TX.
Nelson claimed her third title by winning the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:47:24, which is a new NCAA record.
On Thursday, Nelson, who was seeded third in the 200-yard individual medley, swam for the title with a time of 1:50:79. The junior beat last year's national title-holder, Stanford's Ella Eastin, by swimming the second-fastest mark in the history of the event.
On Friday, Nelson claimed her second title winning the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 49.18, the fastest mark in the history of the event. With that win, Nelson became the first Badger to win two national titles.
