Originally called Youthful Shoes, what eventually became Morgan’s Shoes opened in 1961 on State Street in downtown Madison, Wisconsin. A year later in 1962 the store moved to its current location at Hilldale Shopping Center. We were one of the original tenants of the then brand new Hilldale Mall and we are in the same location today. At that time the store sold only children’s shoes, but soon the inventory was expanded to include adult shoes. In 1983 Ken Morgan bought Youthful Shoes from his partners and renamed it Morgan’s Shoes. Getting back to the roots of the business, in 1997 Ken opened Morgan’s Stride Rite, a separate store devoted to children shoes. Later that same year, Ken added New Balance-Madison, a New Balance Concept Store, specializing in performance athletic footwear. Today, our stores employ almost 30 trained shoe fitters and pedorthists. We are here for you whether you require help with a medical issue or are just looking for great looking and comfortable shoes.

Morgan’s Shoes FAQ
HOW LONG HAS MORGAN’S SHOES HAD A CHILDREN’S STORE AT HILLDALE?
Since 1962. It was the third store to open at Hilldale. It was called YOUTHFUL SHOES and Ken Morgan as the assistant manager. Ken purchased the store in 1983 and renamed it Morgan’s Stride Rite.
WHAT HAS CONTRIBUTED TO YOUR SUCCESS?
Mostly through the training of all the sales associates. Fitting children’s shoes is very difficult because they can’t tell you if the shoes are too small or too big. It takes a lot of training to fit children’s feet. Six months is about the average time it takes to learn how to fit children’s feet properly. The bones in a child’s foot are not developed yet and if the shoes are not fitted properly, foot issues can develop at this early age. In addition, we have a very large inventory of fashionable shoes, sandals and athletic shoes in all widths and sizes.
HOW CAN PARENTS OR GRANDPARENTS TELL WHEN SHOES ARE OUTGROWN?
We have an easy method that we can teach parents, grandparents and care givers. We invite you to stop in and learn from the experts. Additionally, we can notify you when it’s time for a size check. Many don’t know this, but children will outgrow their shoes in the width long before the length.
WHEN DO KIDS NEED SHOES?
When a child takes a few steps by holding onto your hand is about the right time. Stride Rite has a first step baby program which match’s the child’s progress in learning how to walk with the proper shoes.
