About Us

Harker Heating & Cooling, Inc. has been providing quality heating and cooling services to Madison, WI since 1949.

Together with our staff, vendors, friends and family, we’ve been able to sustain a company that has always been focused on our customer’s needs.  For this to happen we hold firm in the importance of supporting and taking good care of our staff.  We believe in a quote from Simon Sinek, who wrote, “Customers will never love a company until the employees love it first.”  It all starts at the core.  From there, after more than 60 years serving Dane County, gratefully, we’re able to continue the journey.

Our home is located at 87 West Beltline Hwy, in Madison.  If you are ever near us, please stop by.  We have Wisconsin’s premier heating and cooling showroom.  It features fully functioning furnaces, air conditioners, radiant heat, and water heaters.  In need of a fireplace?  We’ve got that, too.

We are also a Carrier Distinguished Dealer, a celebrated award offered to very few dealers.  It’s a reflection of our commitment to serving you, our customer.

Harker Heating & Cooling FAQ

Do I need to maintain my furnace and conditioner on a yearly basis?
Yes. Continuous preventive maintenance has a proven record of adding 5-10 years to the life of your equipment if maintained from the date of the original installation. Preventive maintenance allows your equipment to run as efficiently as possible, saving you money on your energy bills and can also reduce the inconvenience of costly equipment breakdowns.

Which Brand of furnace and air conditioner is the best?
All brands have certain unique characteristics that they benefit from. However, the focus should not necessarily be about the brand. Focusing more on finding the right local company, that operates out of an office, that has the right people, and the right reputation, should be a bigger considerations when selecting heating and cooling equipment.

How can I improve my indoor air quality?
One of the first steps is to keep your house clean and to remove as much dirt and dust from your home as possible. Another option is to ventilate your home well. When dust and particulates enter your home from doors and windows, for example, they can get stuck in your home. A system that exchanges the stale air in your home and recirculates fresh air from outside can help. Other options are air cleaners. There are some high quality air cleaners that can capture some of the smallest particulates in your home. Another factor that can influence your air at home can be humidity and temperature. Finding the right balance is key. High humidity, for example, can increase concentrations of certain types of germs.

Why are some rooms colder or warmer than others?
Under these circumstances, it is best to rule out simple items, whilst being proactive. If vents are covered up in rooms, there is no chance for air to circulate warm or cold air. Check the vents, first. You can also be proactive and close doors to rooms, pull the blinds down in summer, for instance. Modern, high efficiency, furnaces are starting to play a roll in how the air circulates in our homes. Instead of the furnace turning off or on based on the need of the thermostat, today's furnaces can ramp up and ramp down, sort of like changing gears in a car. Instead of on/off, the air will circulate for longer within your home, and can help even out those temperature discrepancies in rooms that have temperature challenges.

Why should I choose Harker Heating & Cooling?
In this area, there is a lot of competition for your heating and cooling business. That's a great thing for the customer. It's a good thing for area contractors, also. It keeps us all honest. If a company offers poor services, especially given the fact of how fast information and opinions can be pushed out in to the public eye, they will most likely be called out on it, publicly. At Harker Heating & Cooling, we realize that in order to stand out from the crowd we need to be responsive to our customers' needs. That only happens if we employ the best talent in the area, from customer service, to the technicians, to the warehouse. If we employ the best talent, we have to keep them. That's why we like to focus on our staff, first. Focusing on them allows that positive spirit to be provided to our customers. We are a product of our staff. Without them, we fail. We look after our staff in order to look after our customers.
