Parts of apartment building collapse on Madison's west side

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Crews are responding to a partial structural collapse at an apartment building on Madison's west side Monday afternoon.

Madison fire department said residents at the apartment building in the 1200 block of McKenna Blvd. were doing remodeling work in the basement when a supportive wall was removed. Fire officials said that caused parts of the apartment building to slowly collapse over the day.

Officials said no injuries have been reported. Crews are working with the Red Cross to find victims a place to stay.

Fire officials at the scene said part of the first floor collapsed.

Building inspectors are at the scene to determine if its safe for any residents to return to their apartments.
