UPDATE: Suspect surrenders, hostage rescued at Rockford, Ill. credit union

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WMTV/WIFR) -- Rockford, Illinois police say the hostage situation at the Heritage Credit Union is over on Friday night.

More than seven hours after a hostage situation began at Heritage Credit Union on North Mulford Road in Rockford, aerial footage shows a man being taken out of the bank in handcuffs, seemingly ending a situation that involved one hostage

Police say the suspect was in the Heritage

Just after 9 p.m. the suspect and the hostage walked out of the building with their hands up in the air.

The woman who was held hostage was taken to another area, and the man was taken to the ground and handcuffed.

No one was injured during the incident, our sister station WIFR reports.

Local law enforcement, including a SWAT team, responded at around 2:30 p.m. Friday to a call of a bank robbery.

Police later learned that the gunman had entered the credit union and demanded that people leave the building.
