MADISON, Wis. (WMTV)-- Authorities responded to a report of a suspicious package at the Hartmeyer Ice Arena in Madison Wednesday evening. Officers used an X-Ray on the package and determined it to be safe and not an explosive.
The Madison Police Department says that when officers arrived, they found the package and determined it was "suspicious," according to a incident report.
Officers then established a perimeter around the arena, and people in nearby businesses were evacuated.
The Dane County Sheriff Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit as well as the City of Madison Police Explosive Device K-9 were called in to assist.
Eventually, using an X-Ray, police determined the package to be safe and not an explosive.
"The City of Madison Police would like to remind you that if you encounter a suspicious package never approach or attempt to open it. In addition always keep a safe distance and notify the City of Madison Police Department," according to the report.
