FITCHBURG, Wis. (WMTV) - More than 100 friends and family came together Monday night, to remember 17-year-old Shay Watson.
Watson was shot and killed in Fitchburg on Sunday night.
The candlelight vigil at McKee Farms Park was put together in a matter of hours. Friends say the large turnout is an example of how Watson affected so many peoples’ lives.
“It just shows the kind of person he was,” says friend Quan Kaffey. "He always was positive, always lifted people up no matter what he was going through. He always had a smile on his face.”
"Shay was a respectful 17-year-old boy who is not going to see his first day of senior year," said Savanna Rainey, also a friend of Watson's. “Anyone that knows Shay knows the type of impact that he had on anybody.”
Friends and family at the vigil tell NBC15 News that Watson will be remembered as more than just a friend.
“A role model. A leader. I definitely looked up to him,” Kaffey says. “A legend, for real. A legend.”
You can donate to Watson’s family at GoFundME.com, who is asking for donations to offer reward money for information that will lead to the arrest of suspects in the homicide.
Fitchburg police are actively investigating the homicide.
