Baraboo rally preaches message of love and peace

BARABOO, Wis. (WMTV) - Dozens of protesters gathered at the Sauk County Courthouse in Baraboo to spread a message of love on Monday, in response to a viral photo on social media of over 50 boys apparently raising a Nazi salute in the same place over a year ago.

At around 4 p.m. the crowd gathered, holding signs and flags and chanting together.

Some there said they were heartbroken and shocked to see that the photo consisted of teens from their own town of Baraboo.

NBC15 talked with some of the teens who were present when the photo was taken, but weren’t in it. They said they remember some confusion over what the photographer was directing the students to do, one student remembered the photographer asking for a wave hi, or strike a power pose. In that confusion some students raised their hands from peer pressure.

A group photo was also taken in front of the building, exactly where the original photo was taken, but with people making a heart gesture at the camera instead.
