JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV) A crash involving a SUV and semi-truck closed down a portion of a busy highway in Rock County on Tuesday morning.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to the crash at the intersection of East State Highway 11 and Beloit Avenue just after 5 a.m.
A preliminary investigation showed the SUV was traveling eastbound on East State Highway 11 and attempted to turn northbound onto Beloit Avenue. The SUV turned in front of the semi-truck which was traveling westbound on East State Highway 11, and the two vehicles collided at the intersection. The driver of the semi-truck was a 24-year-old man from Gary, Indiana.
Sheriff officials said the SUV sustained heavy damage. The driver, a 30-year-old Janesville man, had to be extricated from the SUV. He was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. He has serious but not life-threatening injuries. He driver of the semi was also taken to local hospital by ambulance. He has minor injuries.
East State Highway 11 was closed to westbound traffic for about 30 minutes while crews secured the scene. East Highway 11 westbound traffic is currently open to only one lane of traffic. It’s expected to be one lane until about 9:30 a.m. in order to remove the semi-tractor and trailer.
Sheriff officials said the driver of the SUV will be receiving citations for operating while suspended and failure to yield right of way.
