MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- It is a Wisconsin staple that is back in full force, the classic fish fry. It's the first Friday of Lent, which means fish fries are on every corner.
St. Maria Goretti's fish fry is an example of what worshipers gain during the season of sacrifice.
Father Scott Emerson joined the parish recently and was amazed at his first fish fry event. He said more than 800 people come to the church for the food, but more importantly, the community.
The swift serving doesn't go unappreciated. Many people raved about the volunteers. Hundreds of them rotate throughout the month to put on the fish fry.
"It's impressive, "Lawn Lasecki said.
He once traveled to Iowa for some fish fry. He's never been back since.
"We went into Dubuque, there is no such thing as a fish fry," Lasecki said.
