MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -- Kids and their families had a chance to pick out a new bike on Saturday, thanks to a local nonprofit organization.

Free Bikes for Kids gave away 1400 bikes this weekend to kids and adults. Bikes were donated at the beginning of the year by local residents and some nonprofit bike shops. Volunteers and mechanics help kids set up their new bikes and helmets.

"When you're a single parent like I am, sometimes you don't have money for the extras. It seems like a bike might be not a necessity, but it really is. They're really, really nice to have," Tyjeana Galloway said. who picked out a bike today with her daughter.

Free Bikes for Kids will give out more bikes Sunday afternoon at their workshop at 4546 Verona Rd. from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
