Funeral for Bishop Morlino of Madison to be held on Dec. 4

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The funeral for the Bishop of the Diocese of Madison Robert C. Morlino will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Bishop Morlino died last Saturday at the age of 71 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.

The funeral will be held at the St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church at 5313 Flad Ave. in Madison, starting at 11:00 a.m.

The Archbishop of Milwaukee Jerome Listecki and Rev. Monsignor James R. Bartylla are planning to attend the funeral.

Visitation will begin before the funeral at 9 a.m. An interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery after the funeral.

On Dec. 3, a prayer vigil with the opportunity for visitation will be held at O’Donnell Chapel at Holy Name Heights at 702 S. High Point Rd. in Madison from 1 - 7 p.m. Solemn Vespers will begin at 7 p.m., presided by Bishop Paul Swain.

Nine priests of the Diocese of Madison met and unanimously elected Msgr. James Bartylla as the diocesan administrator, following Bishop Morlino’s death.

In a press release Monday the Diocese said Bartylla previously served as the Vicar General, the Vocations Director and Master of Ceremonies for Bishop Morlino.
