MADISON, Wis. (WMTV)--- The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) found a loaded firearm at Dane County Regional Airport.
A spokesperson with TSA said the Titan .25 caliber firearm which was loaded with three rounds was detected during an x-ray screening at a checkpoint on Monday. The Dane County Sheriff’s Office responded. They interviewed the passenger, and they took possession of the weapon.
The spokesperson with TSA said it will be up to law enforcement to determine if there will be a criminal charge. TSA also reviews the incident and can assess a penalty of up to $13,333 per violation.
“Firearms can only be transported in a checked bag, if declared to the airline at the ticket counter and properly packed in a locked, hard-sided container,” said TSA Wisconsin Federal Security Director Mark Lendvay. “Firearms detected at TSA security checkpoints cause significant operational disruptions for our Transportation Security Officers, supporting law enforcement officials and the traveling public.”
TSA said this is the second firearm to be found at the Dane County Airport so far in 2019. In 2018, TSA intercepted four firearms at the checkpoints in Madison.
