Local winter athletes say 'best winter in a while'

MIDDLETON, Wis. (WMTV) -- Downhill ski places have been busy and so have the outdoor stores like REI. As some frown when they see snow, many outdoor enthusiast smile ear to ear.

Larry Barta is one of them. He loves the snow for cross country skiing, but not so much for shoveling. Barta has spent some of his winter days, much like his summer days, at Pleasant View Golf Course.

"I like golfing more, yeah. But I like skiing in the winter," Barta said.

REI in West Towne Mall told NBC15 that they have been very busy the past few weeks with people wanting to buy winter equipment. Their corporate office did not respond in time for permission to interview the manager in-store.

Tyrol Basin and Cascade Mountain told NBC15 have seen a drastic increase in snow this year compared to last year. Snow is "free advertising," for the local downhill skiing spots.
