Joel DeSpain, a spokesperson with the Madison Police Department, said the call came in around 11:10 p.m. on Tuesday for a disturbance near Schroeder Rd. and Struck St. The man got into an apartment where a 38-year-old woman was sleeping. She was able to fight him off after being chocked. She barricaded herself in a bathroom while the suspect armed himself with a kitchen knife. She was not injured.

DeSpain said the 45-year-old Madison man was taken into custody around 3:20 a.m. after MPD SWAT and negotiators worked for several hours to peacefully resolve the crisis. He was taken to the hospital with self-inflicted cuts.
