MADISON, Wis. (WMTV)--- A staff member allegedly used a racial slur in front of several students at Spring Harbor Middle School in Madison.

In a letter to parents, Principal Pam Waite notified families about the incident that happened in one of the school’s classrooms on Wednesday.

Waite said as soon as they were informed of the incident, the teacher was removed from the classroom. They began investigating.

Waite said, “Immediate and appropriate action will be taken pending the outcome of the investigation.”

Waite goes on to say the school is working hard to support their students and make sure they feel safe and supported.

"No matter the context or the circumstance, use of racial slurs is unacceptable in our schools and throughout our community. I sincerely do not believe this represents the safe and inclusive community that we have created at our school," said Waite.

During this school year, there have been several incidents in which MMSD staff members have used racial slurs in the classroom in front of students.
