COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP)-- Schools are canceling or delaying classes after a winter storm coated roads across part of the Midwest.

The National Weather Service issued winter weather advisories across much of Missouri, along with smaller parts of Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Iowa, Indiana and Wisconsin.

The Missouri Department of Transportation shows that roads in the northern part of the state are snow-covered. The department urged drivers in a news release to "remain vigilant."

The University of Missouri's flagship campus in Columbia announced that any classes that start before 10 a.m. are canceled.

Numerous school districts also canceled classes, including several in the Kansas City area.
