Police arrest Beloit teacher for sexual assault

BELOIT, Wis. (WMTV)---- Police are investigating a report of sexual assault involving inappropriate touching by a teacher at Beloit Memorial High School.

Sarah Millard, a spokesperson with the Beloit Police Department, said the teacher 53-year-old Scott Abbott of Rockford was arrested on Tuesday afternoon for sexual assault of a child by a school staff person.

Millard said the Rock County District Attorney’s Office will be reviewing Millard’s arrest. The investigation is ongoing.

Millard said the School District of Beloit and Beloit Memorial High School are fully cooperating with the investigation.

The School District of Beloit released statement:

A high school staff member at Beloit Memorial High School was arrested earlier today by the City of Beloit Police Department. Charges against this individual are pending and no further information is available at this time. However, we want to assure parents and community that all students and other staff are safe.
