Rock County opens warming centers to help battle extreme cold

JANESVILLE,Wis. (WMTV) Due to the extreme temperatures and wind chills, several warming centers have announced closures and hour adjustments during beginning tonight, until Friday, February 1.

Beloit Grinnell Senior Center – 631 Bluff Street – Closed until Thursday at 12:00 pm
Salvation Army – 628 Broad Street – Open 24 hours, closing down services on Friday.

Clinton Public Library – 214 Mill Street – Closed until Friday at 8:30 am
Clinton Senior Center – 508 Front Street – Closed until Friday at 10:00 am

Creekside Place Community Center – 102 Maple Street - Wednesday and Thursday 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

Blackhawk Technical College – 6004 S. County Highway G – Closed until Thursday at 12:00 pm
Janesville Mall – 2500 Milton Avenue – Closed Wednesday
The Salvation Army – 514 Sutherland Avenue – Daytime Warming Center Only – Open 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Trinity Episcopal Church – 411 E. Court Street. – Open Wednesday Only – 9:00 am – 4:00 pm, Serving coffee and snacks.
House of Mercy – Wait list over 100 people. Cannot serve as an overnight warming shelter at this time. Those in need should still register for services with organization.

Milton Public Library – 430 E. High Street, #100 – Closed Wednesday

Orfordville Public Library – 519 E. Beloit Street – May close at 5:00 pm Wednesday.

Brodhead Public Library – 1207 25th Street – Closed Wednesday
Warming centers and overnight shelters are critical to the safety of our citizens during these dangerous weather conditions, and the Rock County Sheriff’s Office extends their sincere appreciation to the organizations that continue to support these operations.
