BELOIT, Wis. (WMTV) -- Three people were injured after an 8-vehicle crash on the interstate in Beloit Friday morning.

The crash closed all southbound lanes and one northbound lane for hours, leading to a major late-morning traffic jam. All lanes are now open.

In a release later on Friday, Wisconsin State Patrol said that it appears a vehicle was driving into the opposing lane of traffic and smashed into two other vehicles.

That led to a chain reaction in which five other vehicles – including a semi truck – crashed together.

Three people went to the hospital with minor injuries.

Charges are pending against the Madison man who reportedly caused the crash.
