Two injured after vehicle crash on State Highway 16

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Two are injured after a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 16 near the Town of Newport in Columbia County Saturday.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office says a 2012 Mazda was traveling westbound in the eastbound lane of State Highway 16 when it struck a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country, heading eastbound.

A 25 year old female from Beaver Dam, WI was driving the Mazda, and a 23 year old female from Norwalk was driving the Chrysler. The operator of the Mazda received serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The operator of the Chrysler received minor injuries and was not medically transported.

The Mazda operator was cited for operating while intoxicated as a 1st offense.

Road conditions had begun to transition from rain/sleet to snow at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.
