For ice sports, it's a shot in the right direction. For Sun Prairie, it's a big win for the local economy.
Doors to the new Sun Prairie Ice Arena only opened back in January, but since then it's been full, every week, with teams and skaters, taking advantage of the two NHL-sized rinks . The new state-of-the-art ice facility is bringing in big crowds and big money into Sun Prairie.
"Every weekend we have outside people coming in” says Larry Clemens, manager of the rink.
This weekend, folks from all across the Midwest are converging in Sun Prairie for the Womens Central Hockey League playoffs. It's one of many big tournaments being held at the new arena.
“People will need some lodging and most likely will dine and hopefully will do some shopping” says Ann Smith, Executive Director of the Sun Prairie Chamber of Commerce.
And it's not just hockey bringing people in, figure skating even recreational skating has been a huge draw.
"So far it's been outstanding” says Clemens.
