FORT ATKINSON, Wis.---An intoxicated bicyclist was injured after he fell off his bike and landed in the roadway Tuesday evening according to the Fort Atkinson Police Department.
According to a witness at the scene, the 55-year-old Fort Atkinson man was traveling at a high rate of speed as he approached the intersection at Janesville Avenue and South 3rd Street.
The witness said the the bicyclist lost control of his bike, struck another bicyclist and then fell off his bike landing in the roadway.
Police said traffic traveling on Janesville Avenue was able to stop in time narrowly missing the bicyclist as he laid in the lane of traffic.
Officers on scene said the bicyclist smelled of intoxicants. They believe intoxication is the main contributor of this incident.
"It is important that citizens understand that using any mode of transportation while impaired poses dangers to citizens in our community," stated Chief Adrian Bump.
