From the Janesville Police Department:

On March 6, 2012 at 4:17 p.m. Janesville Police officers responded to a report of a person shot at the Old Town Mall, 20 S. Main Street, Janesville.

Arriving officers found a 42-year-old male, lying in the common area of the mall with a visible head wound. The victim, Mark Kromrey of Janesville, was transported to Mercy Hospital by Janesville Fire Department Paramedics. Mr. Kromrey later died from his injuries.

Found at the scene was a pistol and suicide note.

Janesville officers had contact with Mr. Kromrey in August of 2010 regarding a letter Mr. Kromrey had sent to Congressman Paul Ryan. In that letter, Mr. Kromrey indicated that he may commit suicide in the area of the Congressman's office. As a result of this contact, Janesville officers sought appropriate assistance for Mr. Kromrey.

Mr. Kromrey did not threaten Congressman Ryan and told officers that "he was not mad or has any hostile feelings against Ryan and in fact Ryan did help him out." Mr. Kromrey's frustration was related to a lawsuit that he filed with the Department of Justice and his dissatisfaction with the outcome.

The matter is still under investigation however the cause of death appears to be a suicide.
