MADISON, Wis. -- After 48 days away from the Coliseum , the Madison Capitols took to the ice Friday night to cross-check cancer.
Partnering with the UW Carbone Cancer Center the caps hosted a night celebrating cancer survivors and raising money to help benefit cancer research.
"A lot of this is mental," cancer survivor, Tom Stoeberl, said.
"If you're good in your head that's half of life's battle. You have to win mentally as well as win physically," he continued.
Stoeberl explained the night of celebration as a network of people rallying together for one cause.
"A lot of people want to do their part," he said.
"They do whatever they can to help. It's just a big network of support from a lot of angles."
And when asked his advice for those trying to kick cancer, he said you can't change the cards, but you can play the game.
A portion of all of ticket sales and package proceeds from Friday night were donated to the UW Carbone Cancer Center.
The special jerseys worn were auctioned off after the game, and those proceeds were donated to help benefit the center as well.
