Baraboo, Wis. -- A contracted worker is in the hospital after an accident inside a water tower.

Emergency responders were called to the water tower on Mine Road near Baraboo Country Club just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Utility Superintendent Wade Peterson says a man fell onto a platform while he was inside the stem of the tower. Peterson is not sure how far the man fell, but it could have been up to 70 feet.

The man had been doing maintenance work on the tower. That included things like cleaning and painting. He works for LC United Painting, which is based in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

Fire officials helped lower the the injured man to the ground. He was then transferred to UW Med Flight Staff and transported to UW Hospital with serious injuries.

OSHA is among those looking into the incident. Investigators are expected to be on scene Wednesday as well.
