Tim's Travels: Sweet Summertime on the Sugar River

By  |

If you're looking for a fun way to cool off this summer, we've got just the thing for you! We're taking you down the Sugar River!

People hop on whatever kind of flotation device they want: tube, canoe, kayak. And they just mosey on down the river. It's a great way to kick back and spend some quality time with family and mother nature.

The Rast family is on vacation.

“I'm going to go kayaking and have a lot of fun,” said little Christian Rast.

“Well, we wanted to do something as a family so this is pretty fun I think. This will be one of the highlights our vacation,” said dad Joel Rast.

They're visiting all the way from Sao Paulo, Brazil!

“We live in a really big city so we don't get to see much of a river,” said Alex Rast.

They came to S&B tubing in downtown Albany.

“I felt like I was herding cats to get them out here,” Joel laughs. “It's really fun to be outdoors, its a gorgeous day out here and I think we might creates some memories, we might tip over!” added Joel.

“People really like it, it's a great time,”

Jenny Bryant is the manager at S& B. She says people come to take a load off and connect with nature.

“It's the perfect thing to do when it's a beautiful day out and you just relax on the river. Older people, younger people, it doesn't really matter, everyone just loves to go tubing,” said Bryant.

If you plan on going tubing down the Sugar River, be prepared to be in it for the long haul. It takes about 3.5 hours to get from start to finish.

“Perfect! Just perfect!” said John and Cheryl Lauby of New Glarus.

“The humidity is down and it's 80 degrees and sunny. It doesn't get any better!” they said.

The Laubys have been going canoeing for 20 years.

“I enjoy canoeing very much,” said Cheryl.

The couple says hitting the river is the perfect summertime activity.

“We like to be outside and tubing down a river is a wonderful thing to do and it's not something you can do everyday,” added Cheryl.

And little Christian agrees.

“I don't know,” he admits. “It's just really fun. You can get wet and stuff,”
